This past week, we were delighted to host a Beach Safety talk and workshop by the RNLI. The children absorbed vital safety rules like 'stop, think, stay together, float, and phone 999'. The lifeguards commended our children for their knowledge, inquisitive questions, good manners, and exemplary behaviour throughout the session - well done children

Today, we were exceptionally fortunate to welcome a visit from the esteemed Liskeard Fire Station. This exciting encounter provided us with a comprehensive understanding of their invaluable role and the specialized equipment they employ to accomplish various firefighting tasks.

Furthermore, we seamlessly correlated this enlightening visit with the KS1's captivating topic on 'People who help us' and 'The Great Fire of London'! By doing so, we were able to further augment our knowledge and appreciation for these crucial aspects of our society's history and safety.

Our time with the Liskeard Fire Station was truly unforgettable; however, one particular aspect stood out above all: the exhilarating opportunity to venture inside an actual fire engine! This exhilarating experience brought us immense joy and added an extra layer of excitement to this extraordinary day.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all participants who made Wednesday afternoon such a memorable event. The response was truly overwhelming, with over 190 entries flooding in! It is with immense joy that we announce our successful fundraising efforts, with an impressive sum of over £170 raised for our esteemed Parent-Teacher Association.

The exhibition featured an array of handcrafted animals, each one meticulously sculpted and meticulously crafted with love and care. Attendees were captivated by the intricately designed spring bonnets, showcasing the artistry and flair of our students. As a delightful treat, there were chocolate nests on show, providing a delectable taste of the season. A collection of meticulously decorated pebbles and vibrant rainbow collages served as a testament to the artistic expression and imagination of our talented young individuals. To complete this delightful celebration of spring, homemade jam was also showcased, offering a taste of the season's bounty.

To further comprehend the construction techniques used during the era, the students engaged in a hands-on experiment where they created wattle and daub walls. Through this activity, they discovered that as the mud component dried, it gradually crumbled away, thereby exposing the underlying wooden structures.

On Tuesday, our children embarked on an exuberant culinary adventure, as they whipped up a batch of delectable pancakes!

We incorporated lots of learning into this fun activity - instruction reading and writing, calculating and measuring. We challenged the children to solve the calculations of our ingredients as well as weighing them and reading some tricky red words in the instructions.This session not only gratified our taste buds with its scrumptious outcome but also proved to be an enriching and enjoyable lesson for all involved.

During this visit, we had the absolute pleasure of meeting an utterly adorable toy seal pup, whose enchanting tale pulled at the strings of our hearts.

As we plunged into the hypnotic depths of the ocean, we unraveled the mesmerising layers that lie beneath its surface. This profound insight into the oceanic world left an everlasting impression us all, transforming the occasion into one filled with immense joy and complete satisfaction.

Our children had an absolutely delightful time on the 2nd of February 2024 as we supported the NSPCC by actively participating in their wonderful Number Day event.

We invited everyone to join us and engage in a myriad of captivating activities, engaging games, and dress-up extravaganzas themed around numbers. All the while, we strived to raise funds to support crucial services such as Speak out Stay safe and Childline.

Science Practical Work: Classifying Rocks Our budding scientists in Farthing Wood Class have had a marvellous week exploring the fascinating world of rocks. Using their scientific tools and investigation methods, they have delved into the classification of rocks based on their unique properties. Through rigorous testing and observation, these dedicated learners have assessed a wide range of rock types, investigating their permeability, durability, density, and hardness. Building upon their newly acquired knowledge, they have successfully categorised these rocks into three main types: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic. To showcase their impressive work, the class has proudly set up a display just inside the classroom door. Equipped with magnifying glasses for closer inspection, the display allows visitors to explore the distinct characteristics of each rock type. This week, Hundred Acre Wood delved into the captivating world of 'heroes and heroines' during their topic sessions. Specifically, they explored the remarkable contributions of significant nurses in history. To enhance their understanding, the students engaged in a delightful hands-on activity of crafting Florence Nightingale lamps. The Art and DT work linked beautifully to their History work, deepening their understanding. It was heartening to witness their dedication and passion for learning during this exciting topic.

We were treated to an extraordinary dance performance by the talented Farthing Wood Class. Led by their outstanding Arena dance coach, Mrs Hancock, the students dazzled us with their interpretation of a Viking journey on longboats, which beautifully connected to our current topic of study. The performance was wonderful, showcasing not only their creativity but also their rapidly developing dance skills. The whole class worked together seamlessly, and it was an absolute pleasure to witness such brilliant teamwork.

The RNLI, renowned for its commendable work in keeping people safe at sea, conducted an informative session for our students. They covered various aspects of water safety, equipping the children with essential tips and guidelines to follow when enjoying aquatic activities.

Under the guidance of their teachers, the young minds of Farthing Wood Class delved into the world of crafting, armed with natural materials and a sense of adventure. There was a buzz of enthusiasm as the children eagerly took up the task, showcasing their artistic talents and embracing their imaginations.

The hands-on activity involved planting cress, a quick-growing plant that is perfect for introducing children to the joys of gardening. Armed with small pots, soil, and cress seeds, the children eagerly embarked on their botanical journey. They learned about the basic requirements for plant growth, such as water, sunlight, and nutrients.

The young learners eagerly embraced the hands-on activity, as they gathered various materials from nature to craft their eggs and nests. Leaves, twigs, and moss became the building blocks of their imaginative creations. With their imaginations running wild, the children transformed these natural elements into beautiful nests, providing a safe and cosy haven for their imagined creatures.

Our children are enjoying every bit of this fantastic activity. It's a great demonstration of balance, precision, and strong cores.
